<AVENUE I> is an interactive light installation that reflects the symbolic place, Sejong avenue in the center of Seoul. The street is not only historical but also important place where where social discussions are taking place every day. We tried to reinterpret the dynamic spectacle of Sejong avenue, where the past and the present and numerous ideologies and conflicts intersect. Modern buildings, statues, and people constituting the surrounding landscape of the street were extracted in linear forms and placed LED light tubes upside down on the ceiling of the hallway connecting the two exhibition rooms of the museum. This work, the miniature version of the street, symbolizes the dynamics and characteristics of the city itself that changes without stopping. Moreover, this work is also a responsive work that changes in response to the movement of visitors, and shows the willingness to re-examine the value of the existence of "human" that is easily faded under the dazzling lights of the city.
<AVENUE I>은 대도시 서울의 유구한 역사를 담고 있는 상징적 장소이자 현 시점에도 매일 새로운 사회적 논의가 치열하게 발생하고 있는 광화문 앞 세종대로를 주제로 하고 있다. 과거와 현재가 교차되고, 다양한 사람들의 염원과 삶의 양태가 교차되며 수많은 이념과 갈등이 교차되어 지나가는 세종대로의 역동적 스펙터클을 빛으로 재해석하고자 하였다. 우선 대로의 주변 풍경을 구성하고 있는 현대적 건물, 동상, 사람들을 선적인 형태로 추출하고, 미술관의 양 전시실 사이를 연결해주는 복도의 천장 부분에 직선의 라이트 튜브가 교차되는 인터랙티브 조명 작품을 제작하였다. 그야말로 광화문 앞 대로의 축소판이라 할 수 있는 이 작품은 세종대로가 상징하는 서울의 역동성과 함께, 멈추지 않고 변화하는 도시의 특성 자체를 상징하고 있다. 또한 이 작품은 관람객의 움직임에 반응해 변화하는 인터랙티브 작품으로, 도시의 눈부신 불빛 아래 희미해지기 쉬운 '인간'의 존재가치를 재조명하고자 하는 의지를 함께 보여준다.
