By the development of technology, mankind has already lost work to the machine. In the age of the fourth industry, humanity has fears about artificial intelligence. This work indicates how people think and worry about artificial intelligence and how the artists expect about the bright future with the technology as menkind. Lovot lab wants to suggest the different perspective of the brand new machine. Based on artificial intelligence technology, they create artworks to present zeitgeist. Buddha I is the installation which is composed of main sculpture which is a buddha-like sci-fi figure on the octagonal pedestal, illuminating obelisk-like sculpture, and light tubes like fluorescent lights on concrete cylinder illuminating brilliant light surrounding the environment of the work. The kid size robot does lotus position on the octagonal pedestal surrounded by many illuminating standing tubes interacting with itself and stares at audience in front and recognizes and analyzes their age, mood and sex from the their face by the artificial intelligence technology. From the analysis data, the robot tells a short sentence like fortune cookie generated by artificial intelligence from messages posted by human being on the Internet. Illuminating digital obelisk titled “the monument of robot ethic charter” stands in front of the robot buddha. In 2007, korean ministry of commerce, industry and energy planned to establish robot ethic charter at the first in the world. However, the expert group for redacting the document only made a draft and could not formalize it. To memorize the important sentences disappearing in the mists of history, the binary data of the draft is embedded in the monument and is rendered on lights in the infinity mirrors on the sculpture’s surfaces. The lighting tubes surrounding the whole installation interact with the robot buddha. Lights change color when the buddha recognizes the face of audience and speaks messages and reflect the aura of the robot buddha.
미래적인 분위기의 흰색 조명이 설치된 공간에 불상형상의 로봇이 앉아있다. 피라미드 형태의 구조물 안에 가부좌를 틀고 앉아있는 불상형상의 인공지능 로봇은 사람을 관찰한다. 로봇은 머신 러닝(Machine learning)을 통해 인간의 얼굴을 관찰하여 데이터를 축적하고 참여자의 관상을 분석한다. 그에 따른 메시지를 참여자가 듣게 된다. 1960년대부터 미디어를 재료로써 본격적으로 사용하면서 미디어아트 분야가 기술의 발전과 함께 다양한 표현방식으로 창작되고 있는 시점에, 제4차 산업혁명이라고 일컫는 새로운 산업혁명에서 큰 쟁점이 되는 인공지능은 먼 미래의 이야기가 아니다. 이 새로운 기술은 사회 여러 영역에 도입되고 대체 되면서 삶의 질과 패턴이 변화될 것으로 예상한다. 심지어 인공지능 로봇이 사람의 운명을 내다보고, 사람의 앞날을 제시할 수도 있다. 또한 일본의 로보티스트 모리 마사히로의 언캐니 밸리의 수정이론에 따른 살아 있는 인간보다 더 호감을 주는 존재로서의 인공지능과 로봇을 예술적, 철학적인 방법으로 표현하여 인공지능에 대한 인식의 범주를 넓혀 새로운 시각을 제시하려 한다.
