The installation, which was produced with the support of Hanwha Life Plus, was installed at Hangang Park in Yeouido for the 2019 World Fireworks Festival Design Week. Each module, which shines in a cylindrical shape, is placed on a wide lawn by a certain formula to form a spiral. From the structure of DNA to the arrangement of sunflower seeds to the rotation of galaxies, helical structures are mathematical and geometric results of the rules of nature. Through this spiral structure that shows the order and circulation of the natural world, the providence of Mother Nature is expressed, and each module in the large structure of the installation depicts a human being in the system of nature. The cylinders with a good height to sit have a suitable space for each other, providing a resting place for many people to communicate naturally, and the light of the cylinders reacted by the people sitting on the sculpture gathers toward the center of the height in the work to illuminate the center of the sculpture. If enough people participate for more than a certain period of time, the light gathered in the center explodes in all directions beyond the critical point. Light gathers around the center, and the light repeats the explosion to express the cycle of nature. In addition, the spiral structure symbolizes the colorful fireworks in the festival where this work is installed.
한화 라이프 플러스의 지원으로 제작한 <SPIRAL I>은 2019년 세계불꽃축제 디자인 위크를 위해 여의도 한강공원에 설치되었다. 원기둥형태로 빛나는 각각의 객체는 황금각으로 배치되어 나선구조를 이룬다. DNA의 구조, 해바라기 꽃의 씨앗 배열, 크게는 은하가 회전하는 움직임까지, 나선 구조는 자연현상에서 쉽게 발견 할 수 있는 수리적, 기하학적 결과물이다. 자연계의 질서와 순환을 보여주는 나선 구조를 끊임없이 발전하는 인류의 삶에 대입하고, 사람들의 참여를 통해 만들어지는 빛의 움직임으로 그 삶의 흐름을 묘사한다. 휴식공간의 역할을 하기도하는 이 구조물은 사람들이 작품에 자연스럽게 앉을 수 있도록 유도하며, 작품에 앉은 사람으로부터 높이 솟은 작품의 중심을 향해 빛이 상승하여 모인 후 다시 퍼진다. 이를 통해 지속적으로 발전하는 인간의 생활사를 자연 순환 구조에 빗대어 표현하고자 하며, 퍼지는 빛은 나선구조 중심으로부터의 에너지 방출을 묘사함과 동시에 세계 불꽃 축제를 상징한다.
